A Foot In The Crease - Episode 2.16

It’s Episode 2.16 of AFITC – The Christmas Edition. What we hoped would be a warm and fuzzy show was not helped by the Maple Leafs poor play this past week. We recap three losses against Florida, Chicago and Washington, get dizzy as we spin through the Revolving Door more times than we would like and discuss more consistency issues in What To Be-Leaf. We have the details on the potential for a Maple Leaf outdoor game on New Year’s Day 2008, more notes about the Flight of the Penguins Saga and we discuss another new schedule format and the proposed new nets.

On the Bubble features a discussion on Team Canada’s entry into the Spengler Cup, another edition of Listener Email and a Troubling Fact of the Week, this week discussing Rory Fitzpatrick and the campaign to get him into the all star game. Rigamarole explains why the next week will be crucial for future Leafs success.

This week we feature versions of Christmas classics from the Podsafe Music Network including "The Christmas Song" done by Calvin Owens, "Do You Hear What I Hear" by Jill Parr, "I Saw Three Ships" by Dusty Hughes and "Sleigh Ride" by thehipcolal.

A Foot In The Crease - Episode 2.14

It’s Episode 2.15 of AFITC and compared with last week, it’s a much more positive affair. Three Leaf games, three Leaf wins. We recap the action from this past week against Tampa Bay, Carolina and New York, spin through the Revolving Door and explain the difference between this week and last in What To Be-Leaf. Also in the Redline Report, we tell you about the reunion of the ’92-’93 Leafs, the cleaning of the Blues’ Kitchen, where Peter Bondra signed and how this could be a tell-all week for the future of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

On The Bubble features a preview of the World Junior Hockey Championships, more listener email that includes a radical suggestion for the revamping of the schedule, and of course a Troubling Fact of the Week.

Rigamarole discusses further evidence of the changing of the guard in the NHL in favour of a youth movement and in Parting Shots, we play you back another memorable “Errors Roll”. That’s AFITC for the week of December 11th through the 17th. Don’t miss it!

Music in this episode from the Podsafe Music Network included "Learn To Crawl" by Black Lab, "Life From Afar" by Oswald and "Tell Me What You Want pt2" by Moonchild Louis.

We take a closer look at the dreadful play of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Spotlight Team of the Week. A Foot In The Crease - Episode 2.14

The Maple Leafs losing streak reached seven games with a loss Saturday night in Detroit. There was no heart, no determination, no passion all week long but that is anything but an accurate way to describe Episode 2.14 of AFITC.

We cover the Maple Leafs’ three disappointing results this past week against Atlanta, Boston again and Detroit. We tell you who has spun back into the Revolving Door and discuss some of the reasons for this stretch of deplorable hockey in What To Be-Leaf. Joe Nieuwendyk called it a career this past week and we pay tribute to his career in the Redline Report as well. The schedule format is still on the minds of many and we take an in depth look at the decisions that came out of this week’s board of governors meetings. To conclude the RR, we look at how Peter Schaefer’s towel waving gesture may be more than just an isolated protest but rather an indication of what is becoming of the officiating in the NHL.

On the Bubble features another shocking story of indifference to hockey in the Southern US as well as an outstanding portion of listener email. Our listeners are not happy with the Maple Leafs play of late and they tell us all about it on the show. Rigamarole discusses the age old question of whether stars get different treatment than average players, an issue brought back into the light over the past week.

Music in this episode from the Podsafe Music Network includes "The Next Side" by Jealous Mike, "Out Of Control" by JetVicious and "Tremble" by Lost In Rome

Crash the Net Podcast - Season 1 Episode 7

This week we talk about how the Detroit Red Wings continue their consistence: both in winning, and in Joey MacDonald sucking. We also get more of the same (power play problems) from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Because it is the start of a new month we also wrap up how the two teams did in the month of November. If you've been listening you won't hear anything too surprising. In the injury report we discuss the devastating loss of Alexi Yashin to the Islanders and the surprisingly non-devastating loss of Tomas Vokoun to the Nashville Predators. The Spotlight Team of the Week is the Ottawa Senators post Martin Gerber, and in the news we lament on the upcoming jersey changes, celebrate the early All Star Balloting results, and question the Leaf's trade of Tellqvist.

A Foot In The Crease - Episode 2.13

On Episode 2.13 of AFITC, we discuss all the Maple Leaf action from the past week, as disappointing a week as it may have been. The Revolving Door features an injury update on Carlo Colaiacovo. Also this past week, Mikael Tellqvist was traded, Pat Quinn got a job, Evgeni Malkin won another award and Chris Pronger made his way back to Edmonton. We tell you all about these stories in the Redline Report. On The Bubble shares an interesting anecdote regarding a conversation Marian Hossa had with a waiter at a restaurant and features more listener email and a Troubling Fact of the Week. Rigamarole examines whether the Maple Leafs are getting full value for their value pricy defense corps.

Crash the Net Podcast - Season 1 Episode 4

Episode 4 is now available, and yet again I think we've made another drastic improvement in audio quality. This is mostly due to Jason finally buying the microphone I've been suggesting for weeks.

On this week's show we talk about how the Wings and the Penguins are on streaks. Unfortuantely, only one of them is on a hot streak. We also get into all of the latest news including: the Ducks points record, the pros and cons of the NHL schedule, Mats Sundin's injury, and the newest members of the NHL Hall of Fame. In addition to what we talked about concerning the Hall of Fame inductees, I wanted to share this with the readers/listeners of the Crash the Net Podcast.

Today the NHL inducted four new members into the Hall of Fame. The list is comprised of Patrick Roy, Dick Duff, Harley Hotchkiss, and last but most certainly not least, Herb Brooks.

Herb Brooks has done many things for hockey. The most famous of his accomplishments was of course leading the 1980 US Olympic hockey team to an unfathomable victory. Unfortunately Brooks wasn’t able to enjoy his induction in to the Hall of Fame as he died in a car accident on August 11th, 2003.

Brooks holds a special place in the hearts of all Americans, but maybe even more so in the hearts of Penguins fans. In his long career in the sport he loved he was a scout and eventual coach of the Penguins. And because of that the Penguins sent Chuck Grillo, one of their scouts, to represent him at the induction ceremony today. Grillo was a long time friend of Brooks, going all the way back to late 1970’s when he worked for Brooks at his hockey camp. Grillo feels that his life was deeply touched by Brooks, and because of that he’s been in the process of writing quite an article about his life. Fortuantely for me, and for you, the listeners of the Crash the Net Podcast, Grillo sent me a copy of this article. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have!

I would also like to publically thank Chuck Grillo for sending me this wonderful article.

On the Bubble features some listener email and Rigamarole looks at what could potentially take the Leafs' streak off the rails.

Sens Underground - Season 2: Episode 7

What the...who are these guys? The Leafs?

Our record is just brutal (5-7-1)... last year the Sens were 11-2 after 13 games.
We recap this week's games:

Carolina 3 - Ottawa 2
Washington 4 - Ottawa 3 OT

You'd think we could win a single one-goal game but it's not happening. This pathetic record has led to Muckler being "very active" in pursuing a trade that will help the ailing Sens. In "Behind the Jock" we discuss this with our special guest, Sportsnet's own, Ian Mendes. Ian offers us a "Sens Insiders" perspective into the team and what has been going wrong.

We bring you the "Injury Report" with some breaking news, the "Player of the Week"... and let me tell you with the way this team has been playing, it was very difficult to pick anyone. We give you a "Hockey Pool Update" and there's a new leader... we read "Listener Emails", and of course "Sucking Like Jenna".

Don't forget next week we'll have our monthly guest Pierre McGuire and we'll be awarding a pair of tickets for the November 30th game against Florida to the best email/voicemail question for Pierre McGuire. These tickets are courtesy of The Ticket Guy. The Ticket Guy has some great tickets still available for games on November 13 vs Montreal, and November 30 vs Florida at discounted prices, so send an email at tickets@theticketguy.ca or drop by his website.

We decided that it would be better to skip a week than to give you a show that sounded really bad. So, instead we got together on Saturday afternoon to record this show.

In this show we talk about the last five games for the Red Wings, and the last three games for the Penguins. We also talk about the Penguin's big decision on Jordan Staal, the streaking Buffalo Sabres, and the surprising success of the Minnesota Wild.

Sens Underground - Season 2: Episode 5

Finally, a week to proud of. In 2 games we scored more than in the previous 6 games... our team is back baby!

This week's games:

Colorado 2 - Ottawa 1
Ottawa 8 - New Jersey 1
Ottawa 6 - Toronto 2

As you can imagine, this was a heated show after Tuesday's game against Toronto which saw the Leafs return to their goonish ways. Tucker again shows why we think he's a punk-ass Beeeeaaaatch. And Kilger picks up the slack where Tie Domi left off.

We play our first voice mail this week. Give us a call, it's better than us butchering your emails on on the show... call 613-482-1920 and give us your thoughts.

After the recent incident where a Sens fan was brutally attacked while leaving Scotia Bank Place, we throw a controversial topic out this week: Leafs fans and their behaviour in enemy territory. We go Dr. Phil and explore this social plague.

All of this and the regular goodies too including... Injury Report, Game Recaps, Player of the Week, Hockey Pool Update, News from Around the League, Behind the Jock and everyone's favourite.... Sucking Like Jenna.

Sens Underground - Summer Episode 1

Summertime Blues!

It's the Sens Underground "Summer Vacation" edition. Not your typical Underground show. But hey we're on vacation too.

Well there's been a ton of movement in the new NHL. We've lost Chara! Ugh! We've lost Pothier! Crap. But...we've gained...Corvo. And Gerber!

And breaking news... Havlat and Smolinski have been traded to Chicago in a three-way deal with San Jose for Tom Preissing, Michal Barinka, and Josh Hennessy.

Who??? What??? Oh and a second round draft pick. That draft pick makes it worth it....NOT!! We don't know much about these players but one rostered player and prospects for a potential superstar and a solid veteran seems rather weak.

Tune in and listen to hear us break it all down including the Stanley Cup Final, all of the trades, and how Ottawa looks set for next year.

Sens Underground - Episode 30 (Part 2)

Part 2 of our "final" podcast of the season.

In this half we read many of the e-mails we received this week. We had a ton of them and we wanted to give everyone a chance to vent.

We would like to thank all of the great e-mailers who e-mailed the show this year, including: Alex from the UK, Alex from BC, Adam from Oregon, Nick from Sweden, Al from Utica, Mitch, Lee, Danny from Dallas, John from Bingo...Sorry we could not mention you all. You guys were all great this year. Plus all of the people who were listening from all over the world, including, Sweden, Japan, the UK, Germany, Antigua, Saudi Arabia, and of course all over Canada and all over the United States.

Keep the e-mails coming in. We will be happy to keep up the banter over the summer. You give us a global perspective on our beloved Sens and of course, the best damn game in the world, Hockey!

We have Jeff and Dave from A foot in the Crease (The Toronto Hockey Podcast) on the show and we discuss what went wrong for the Sens.

And for the final segment we give out our "thank you's". We're sorry if we missed anyone but there were so many of you. You were omitted but not forgotten.

And big thank you to Stooli for all of his great art work for the show and his guest appearances on the show. Check out mysencity.com to see all of the great work StooLi does. Thanks Bro.

The show is nothing without you folks. Thanks for taking time out of your lives to spend with us this season. We will pop by during the summer for any breaking Sens' news so keep an eye on the website. See you then.

Sens Underground - Episode 30 (Part 1)

This is part 1 of our "final" podcast for this season.

We went down in flames, again. 3-0 was too hard to come back from and so it remains that only 2 teams have ever come back from being down 3-0.

In part 1 we share your pain. We tried to do our normal recaps, but it was just too painful and we felt it was better to do a bit of ranting.

Shredder, Russell and I have different opinions as to what went wrong. It's pretty heated at times, but we're all still friends. No blood was shed.

We discuss the media reaction and finger-pointing. Want went wrong? Who we think needed to step it up. Was it Alfredsson? Was it Heatley? Was it Murray? Was it Emery? Was it Muckler? Was it all of the above?

Don't forget, there's a part 2. So tune into part 2 as we chat with the guys from A foot in the Crease and we discuss the year that was.

We chat with Tom Luongo from Sabre Rattling and get a Buffalo perspective on this series. You'll love this, it's really interesting to get another perspective.

Finally, we discuss the series that were in the west. What happened to Calgary? How did Edmonton pull it off? And of course the bizarre top 4 out in the west, top 4 made it in the east? Weird!

Sens Underground - Episode 29 (Part 1)

The Chicen Little Episode!!! The sky is falling...the sky is falling.

Oh my God!!!! Who are these guys and what have they done with the Senators???

It has been comedy of errors back on the blue line and as you can imagine, we all have something to say about it.

Ottawa opened their series this week against Buffalo and here we sit, down 2 games to none.

Game 1: Buffalo 7 Ottawa 6 OT
Game 2: Buffalo 2 Ottawa 1

We spend quite a bit of time this week recapping the games and sharing our pain with you. In fact so much so that we had to split the show into 2 parts.

Part 1 contains a detailed analysis of the past 2 losses with in-depth discussions as to what went wrong, what we can do better, and who is to blame. We also provide you with an abridged injury report and player of the week.

Please note that there is a Part 2, in which we talk with Tom Luongo from Sabre Rattling, discuss the other series that are over and of course, listener email.

Sorry for the length of the show, but you definitely won't be bored.

Here's to game 3.

Sens Underground - Episode 21

The Leafs Deathwatch episode.

Our longest episode EVER!!! Even MacBitch thinks it was long, and she knows long.
We had a very busy show with 4 games to recap, 2 interviews, as well as trade deadline talk. Let alone chatting about Shredder's off-show activities and gallivanting to Local Heroes.

We recap our 4 wins this week! What a way to come back as we limped into the Olympic break.

Ottawa 4 Pittsburgh 3
Ottawa 7 Washington 1
Ottawa 4 Toronto 2
Ottawa 4 Tampa Bay 0

We couldn't help but talk about the potential trades...too bad nothing has happened yet and what impact it could have on the Senators. We had 2 interviews this week. First, we chat with John Howell from The Hockey Blog who gave us some insight on the Binghamton Senators. Our second interview this week was with the hosts of A Foot in the Crease - the Toronto hockey podcast. We got their take on why they hate the Sens so much, and of course, we had to give them our opinions as well. You'll want to tune into this one!

As usual, we have our listener favourites as well as emails from around the world.

Sens Underground - Episode 20

Hey there Sens Fans...thank God, the Olympic break is over and we're heading fast and furious down the stretch and towards the March 9 trade deadline. Congratulations to Team Sweden for winning Gold, they had a great team with a lot of depth.

Slightly different format this week. As we recap the team Canada games instead of the Sens...

Canada 7 Italy 2
Canada 5 Germany 1
Switzerland 2 Canada 0 ugh!
Finland 2 Canada 0
Canada 3 Czech Republic 2

Quarter Finals
Russia 2 Canada 0

We discuss in depth what the hell went wrong, was it players, coaches, Gretzky, ice size, speed of the skaters...how can we live with this poor performance and what can we do about it!

In "Behind The Jock" we ponder the Sens home run stretch, life without Dominic Hasek and the future return of Martin Havlat. We also discuss possible trades Ottawa might make and the potential impact on the team as well as new NHL rules that come into effect today. And finally, we have a clip of McGrattan on OTR going toe-to-toe with John Nunziata. As always, we read our listener email from around the world plus our listener-favourite segments.

All right folks!!! Grab yourself a "snort" and come along for the ride!!!!

Sens Underground - Episode 19 (The Broadway's Show)

We can't express how much fun doing the live podcast and we want to thank all the folks who came up to join us and the great staff at Broadways.

There were a ton of kids there last night and I think we can safely say we've scarred a few innocent little minds. And really, what more can we hope for?!

Amidst all the silliness, we did do a show and we covered all the usual topics:

A 5-1 loss to the Rangers
A 2-1 loss to the Thrashers
And a 3-2 win over the Flyers

Plus we touched on the Olympics and of course the gambling scandal rocking the NHL. Mac Bitch was nice enough to drop by and of course we had our regular segments. Check out the scrapbook page on the website to see some pictures and videos of the proceedings.
