Crash the Net Podcast - Season 1 Episode 6

In this weeks show we cover the last three games Detroit Red Wings, and the last four for the Pittsburgh Penguins. We read and respond to greatly appreciated listener email. This week we also debut a new segment, the Injury Report. Unfortunately, there seem to be enough injuries now that we are into the thick of the season that they need to be covered in their own segment. In the news we discuss the latest hirings and firings of coaches. We also go in-depth about the Boston Bruins in the Spotlight Team of the Week.

Crash the Net Podcast - Season 1 Episode 4

Episode 4 is now available, and yet again I think we've made another drastic improvement in audio quality. This is mostly due to Jason finally buying the microphone I've been suggesting for weeks.

On this week's show we talk about how the Wings and the Penguins are on streaks. Unfortuantely, only one of them is on a hot streak. We also get into all of the latest news including: the Ducks points record, the pros and cons of the NHL schedule, Mats Sundin's injury, and the newest members of the NHL Hall of Fame. In addition to what we talked about concerning the Hall of Fame inductees, I wanted to share this with the readers/listeners of the Crash the Net Podcast.

Today the NHL inducted four new members into the Hall of Fame. The list is comprised of Patrick Roy, Dick Duff, Harley Hotchkiss, and last but most certainly not least, Herb Brooks.

Herb Brooks has done many things for hockey. The most famous of his accomplishments was of course leading the 1980 US Olympic hockey team to an unfathomable victory. Unfortunately Brooks wasn’t able to enjoy his induction in to the Hall of Fame as he died in a car accident on August 11th, 2003.

Brooks holds a special place in the hearts of all Americans, but maybe even more so in the hearts of Penguins fans. In his long career in the sport he loved he was a scout and eventual coach of the Penguins. And because of that the Penguins sent Chuck Grillo, one of their scouts, to represent him at the induction ceremony today. Grillo was a long time friend of Brooks, going all the way back to late 1970’s when he worked for Brooks at his hockey camp. Grillo feels that his life was deeply touched by Brooks, and because of that he’s been in the process of writing quite an article about his life. Fortuantely for me, and for you, the listeners of the Crash the Net Podcast, Grillo sent me a copy of this article. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have!

I would also like to publically thank Chuck Grillo for sending me this wonderful article.

A Foot In The Crease - Episode 2.10

Once again on this week's episode we welcome a special guest - James Duthie, the host of the NHL on TSN. Our interview with him features some great insight on issues around the league as well as some monkey business. The Redline Report looks at all the Leafs games from the past week, Leaf injury troubles, the Hall of Fame inductions, the GM meeting, the ups of the the Ducks and the lows of the Sens. On the Bubble features some listener email and Rigamarole looks at what could potentially take the Leafs' streak off the rails.

Our thanks go out to James Duthie for speaking with us this week!

Sens Underground - Season 2: Episode 7

What the...who are these guys? The Leafs?

Our record is just brutal (5-7-1)... last year the Sens were 11-2 after 13 games.
We recap this week's games:

Carolina 3 - Ottawa 2
Washington 4 - Ottawa 3 OT

You'd think we could win a single one-goal game but it's not happening. This pathetic record has led to Muckler being "very active" in pursuing a trade that will help the ailing Sens. In "Behind the Jock" we discuss this with our special guest, Sportsnet's own, Ian Mendes. Ian offers us a "Sens Insiders" perspective into the team and what has been going wrong.

We bring you the "Injury Report" with some breaking news, the "Player of the Week"... and let me tell you with the way this team has been playing, it was very difficult to pick anyone. We give you a "Hockey Pool Update" and there's a new leader... we read "Listener Emails", and of course "Sucking Like Jenna".

Don't forget next week we'll have our monthly guest Pierre McGuire and we'll be awarding a pair of tickets for the November 30th game against Florida to the best email/voicemail question for Pierre McGuire. These tickets are courtesy of The Ticket Guy. The Ticket Guy has some great tickets still available for games on November 13 vs Montreal, and November 30 vs Florida at discounted prices, so send an email at tickets@theticketguy.ca or drop by his website.

Notes from around the league include Jordan Staal staying in Pittsburgh, Malkin tying some nice records, Hitchcok's situation with the Flyers, and the upcoming GM meeting. On The Bubble features a huge and excellent amount of listener email along with the Troubling Fact of the Week. Rigamarole looks at why it was a good move for the Leafs to changes coaches for this season.

Crash the Net Podcast - Season 1 Episode 3

We are finally bringing you Episode 3. We did get together to record the show last Monday, but we had a lot of audio quality issues. We decided that it would be better to skip a week than to give you a show that sounded really bad. So, instead we got together on Saturday afternoon to record this show.

In this show we talk about the last five games for the Red Wings, and the last three games for the Penguins. We also talk about the Penguin's big decision on Jordan Staal, the streaking Buffalo Sabres, and the surprising success of the Minnesota Wild.
